1. Begin by selecting two journals related to library and information science.
1st School Library Journal http://www.slj.com/#_
2nd Publishers Weekly http://www.publishersweekly.com/
Examine several issues of both journals, including statements from the editor, instructions to authors, outside sources of information (reviews, Ulrich’s Periodical database, Journal Citation reports, etc.), and other materials you find pertinent.
Describe the following characteristics of each journal:
a. Intended audience(s)
b. Kinds of materials it publishes
c. Whether the journal is peer – reviewed or not (why is this important?)
d. Any characteristics you find of particular interest in light of your own professional goals or in relation to this course. Compare and contrast the journals in light of the four characteristics above. What are the important similarities? Important differences? What do these similarities and differences tell you about the Library information Science field?
